Radiation from a mobile phone changes the cells on the inside of the cheek. Scientists from Tomsk State University (TSU) found this out. The experiment, which involved a hundred volunteers, lasted for a month.
In the scientific world, there is still debate about the carcinogenic effect of cell phone radiation. Numerous scientific conclusions about the presence of such an effect, which in the future may lead to the development of oncological diseases, have often been questioned, since it is always difficult to exclude the spectrum of influence on changes in the cells of other factors, such as: bad habits, diet, lifestyle, oral hygiene …
As the “MK” was informed in the Biological Institute of TSU, in their study, the scientists tried to exclude as much as possible all other factors of influence on the epithelial cells, except for radiation from a mobile phone. Namely, before the study, all subjects filled out a questionnaire in which they indicated personal data (date of birth, gender, age), cell phone model, and also confirmed the absence of X-ray studies and diseases of viral etiology within three months before the study, which could change the results analysis performed. In addition, we selected for the experiment those whose conditions matched.
The oral cavity, as an object of study, was selected on the basis of the availability and ease of collection of cellular material. In addition, the epithelium of the cheek is in close proximity to the cell phone (when they are talking on it), which increases the likelihood of exposure to electromagnetic radiation on the cells of the oral mucosa.
The volunteers were scraped from the inside of the cheeks at the beginning of the study and after a month. The researchers called the “leading” cheek, to which the mobile is often pressed when talking, “control” – the opposite cheek.
As one of the leaders of the experiment, Marina Kostromeeva, said, after a month on the inner side of the cheek, to which the mobile phone was pressed, cells with genome damage, cells that had lost nuclei, as well as abnormal cells with two nuclei were more common, which clearly indicates the carcinogenic effect of radiation phone.
Cellular changes were more often noted in women, which may be due to the fact that they speak on a mobile phone more often and for longer, as well as in representatives of both sexes of the Mongoloid race, which may be associated with genetic differences from more resistant to radiation Caucasians.
As a result, experts advised people who often use mobile phones to change the sides of their attachment, to carry the devices, if possible, in a bag or on a belt, and not to put them at the head of the bed. In addition, it is recommended that you try to avoid talking on a mobile device in areas with low signal strength or in rooms with thick walls, as there the device increases its own signal strength.
Meanwhile, researchers are not yet ready to state unequivocally that the cell phone causes cancer. According to Kostromeeva, for this they need to conduct additional experiments.
